How do I stay informed of what’s going on at Fox Hill?
Good communication is the key to success. Fox Hill has implemented a “Fox Hill Happenings” email newsletter to alert you of all school news and events. To join the Fox Hill email list, if you aren’t already subscribed, look for the newsletter sign up box in the right margin on any lower level page. If you send in membership dues, your email will automatically be added to receive emails (if you provide your address). In which case, there is no need to sign up via the website, we will take care of it for you. You can also follow the PTO’s twitter feed @foxhillpto as well Facebook at www.facebook.com/foxhillpto
Why should I join the PTO?
We are glad you asked! As an Fox Hill parent you are automatically a PTO member. The PTO directly supports your child’s educational experience The PTO gives you an opportunity to voice your great ideas or concerns in a forum that matters! Your involvement will make a difference in a rewarding, positive, and tangible way. There is lots to do and we count on your support and generosity, which is part of what makes Fox Hill such a great school for our children. While we work hard, it is also a really fun way to meet new people and feel good about your commitment to our school.
How can I support the PTO?
One of the great things about FH is that there is room for everyone, no matter how much time you have to volunteer. A list of PTO events and committees follows and we work hard to help you find a job that you enjoy and can be successful whether you have an hour a year or 5 hours a day! Opportunities include volunteering for single events (whether manning a check-in table or flipping pancakes), supporting our fundraisers, heading a committee, attending PTO meetings and events, volunteering in your child’s class, spending a day sprucing up the school garden, or making a monetary donation from you or your company. Bringing your child to social events or clipping Box Tops are all ways to make a big difference.
Why all the fundraisers? What does the PTO Money fund?
The PTO exists to enhance your child’s educational experience through the cooperation of teachers, parents, and the community. The funds raised go directly back into the school to impact all FH students. The PTO pays for field trips, playground equipment, enrichment programs, school improvements, teacher appreciation luncheon, and many other events, and activities.
How does the PTO raise money?
The PTO raises 100% of the funds used to support our great programs. Fundraising is designed in a variety of ways so that ALL parents can participate. Large events have included raffles, and tickets for purchase for extra activities. Smaller events include in-school fundraising, the Fox Trot, and Spiritwear purchases. Additionally, the PTO relies on community support including donations, and participation in fundraising and social activities. You can link your Target card account to Fox Hill School, bring in Box Tops, or best of all give a monetary donation during the Members Donation Drive! We make a big difference at Fox Hill and can’t do it without your help. All monetary donations give Fox Hill 100% profit and are tax deductible. A real win-win for all!!
When are PTO Meetings? How do I know what’s happening?
The PTO meets once a month, on each third Thursday at 6pm at Fox Hill in the school library. Attend these 30-45 minute meetings for an update or get into the nitty gritty at a work session to follow (when needed). Also check with your Room Parent to learn about what’s happening and have your voice heard. Follow the weekly Fox Hill PTO newsletter or www.foxhillpto.org to find out what programs are coming up and what volunteer positions need to be filled.
I have a great idea for a fundraiser. Will you listen?
Yes! The PTO is your voice in the school. If you have a great idea, pitch it to us. We are always looking for fresh ideas and new ways of doing things. Have you lived in another place with a successful event? Do you have a talent or hobby that might fit right in with our goals? Come to a meeting or email is….we are ready to listen and happy to have your help!
How do I get involved with my child’s classroom?
A great way to support your child is to volunteer in the classroom. You can sign up to be Room Parent or just help as needed. Many teachers welcome weekly volunteers to help with a variety of tasks. If you have the time, the Fox Hill staff will appreciate all you have to offer.
What is a Room Parent/PTO Liaison?
The role of a room parent varies according to the specific teacher. Often the Room Parent helps the teacher plan small parties (depending on grade level) and help keep all classroom parents informed of happenings within the classroom. Specifically, the PTO asks a parent or two in each class, often the Room Parent, to take on the responsibility of being a representative of the class for the PTO. These parents can attend the PTO meetings and report back to all parents in the class, creating an ongoing dialogue between the PTO and each family at Fox Hill. The PTO Room Parent Coordinators will also relay pertinent info to all room parents to pass on to their classes — like raffle basket instructions when events call upon classrooms to participate. Can I or my company sponsor or donate to an event?
Yes and Yes! You can make a donation at any time, even after the Donation Drive is over. Remember, any donation over $50 is tax-deductible. Another option, if you own a business or work for an interested company, is to sponsor a school event. The donation made will go 100% to the school and in turn we will promote the business in advertising for the event, on our website and at our event. Your business can also provide material for distribution at the event if it is deemed appropriate. Banners and other signage are also allowed.
